Shirley Ploeger W0AVG passed away yesterday. Visitation is at Martin Funeral Home in
Marthasville Thursday from 5PM until 9PM. I believe their address is 447 Highway 47. The
funeral is Friday at 11AM at St. Paul’s United Church of Christ in Marthasville. The address
is 103 South Two Street. We will all miss Shirley’s railroad stories and his love of railroad
telegraphy. Check KETC-9 out once in a while. I have seen a tape of Shirley several times
talking about the Katy Trail and his life with the railroad. It is a good program.
The monthly meeting for the ZeroBeaters ARC will be Wednesday May 7 at 7:30PM in
Dutzow. Supper will be at Ponderosa in Washington next to the new J C Penney store.
Field Day is coming up on last weekend of June. The school’s lawn was cut yesterday by
Craig N0MFD. Someone trimmed the trees over the entrance driveway with a chain saw.
Thank you. Thank you. Thank you. That really needed to be done. Those limbs have been
moved to the ‘burn spot’ and will no doubt be used as kindling for the next bonfire this fall.
Yummy! I can taste the burned marshmallows already! Only next time, might I suggest
not walking around in the hot coals to keep your feet warm….shoes get expensive.
Jim W0FF will be bringing tickets to the clubhouse tomorrow evening. Let’s start distributing
them to the members, and get some ticket sales prior to the hamfest. I sold a few at Godfrey
hamfest, but not very many. It was a REALLY SMALL hamfest.
Perry is working on the new website. It is WWW.ZEROBEATERS.ORG and although I have
not checked it recently, I think it is linked to our old website. Changes and updates are
being made as they can. Perry will fill us in at the meeting.
Good net tonight. 18 check-ins from the area. Don’t forget Nicole KD0BCX runs a ‘Teen Net’
on Saturday evening at 8PM on the 147.240+ repeater. Although it is intended to get young
children involved in ham radio, she is taking check-ins from adult operators as well. Now is
a good time to get the grand-children, nieces, nephews, and neighbors involved in radio.
Sit down with them at 8PM Saturday evening. You too can be an ‘Elmer’.
Come to think of it…Now is a good time to remind everyone that I would like to have some
more net control operators sign on to give me a break on Tuesday evenings. Come on, folks!
Perry has helped a couple times, but does not have his computer at his operating position,
so he does not run Newsline audio. That’s OKAY…Newsline is not necessary.
Nicole has helped a couple times, but does not have internet access to run Newsline audio.
That’s OKAY…Newsline is not necessary.
Bruce has helped several times, and has the ability to run Newsline audio. Unfortunately,
his work schedule limits what he can do on Tuesday nights.
Please, please, please. Volunteer to be a net control operator so we can start taking turns
on Tuesday nights. I don’t want to sound like an old pain-in-the-posterior, but with a few
exceptions, I have done this for over a year now. It’s time for someone else to step up and
help. If enough people will help, then it will never be a burden on anyone.
Have a good night and we’ll see you at the meeting Wednesday evening. Ron N0YCX
